Optimising carbon storage potential of urban and temperate freshwater-inland wetlands through spatial design consideration of vegetation communities in Christchurch, New Zealand
Abstract
A research poster: This research poster examines how the spatial design of vegetation communities can optimise carbon storage in urban and temperate freshwater inland wetlands in Christchurch, New Zealand. Using landscape architecture and ecological design perspectives, the study explores the relationships among vegetation structure, composition, spatial configuration, and soil carbon processes. The findings highlight how freshwater wetlands can function as credible climate mitigation assets when plant-soil-water biogeochemical interactions are treated as central in both landscape design and soil management practices.
