Integration between food systems and a gender approach in climate action: a scoping review protocol
Abstract
This project presents a scoping review protocol aimed at examining how climate action integrates a gender perspective within food systems. Recognizing the interconnections among climate change, gender inequalities, and food and nutrition insecurity, the review seeks to map and synthesize how these dimensions are articulated in both scientific and gray literature. The review will follow the methodological guidance of the Joanna Briggs Institute and will be reported in accordance with the PRISMA-ScR checklist. The guiding research question was developed using the PCC framework (Population, Concept, Context) and focuses on identifying the extent to which climate actions explicitly incorporate gender perspectives in relation to food systems. Searches will be conducted in multidisciplinary databases (Scopus, Embase, and Web of Science) and complemented by gray literature searches in institutional repositories. Data extraction will examine how gender dimensions are operationalized, which components of food systems are addressed, and the types of climate action identified (mitigation and adaptation). The findings will contribute to advancing integrated and gender-responsive approaches in climate and food systems governance.
