Unlocking the Potential of the 'Forgotten Ion': A Scoping Review of Magnesium for Pain Relief in Advanced Cancer
Abstract
This research intends to map the available evidence to use Magnesium through any systemic routes for alleviating pain in advanced cancer patients. Magnesium, being an important cation in the human body which aids in multiple reactions and pathways is usually neglected in routine investigations. Magnesium is important in the functioning of NMDA receptors too which play a very important role in the management of neuropathic pain and central sensitisation. We plan to shed some light onto the literature which exists to explore the role of magnesium as an adjuvant analgesic in management of advanced cancer pain.
