Social determinants of health and nurses: a systematic review of researched knowledge, attitudes and practices
Abstract
This systematic review aims to identify and classify the Social Determinants of Health examined in relation to nurses’ and nursing students’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices, using an adapted version of the Dahlgren–Whitehead Rainbow Model as an analytical framework. The findings of this systematic review may provide valuable insights for the nursing field by supporting the promotion of care approaches that explicitly consider non-medical factors influencing health and well-being. Although addressing Social Determinants of Health requires a multidisciplinary approach, nurses- by virtue of their close and continuous contact with individuals and communities- are uniquely positioned to contribute to the advancement of health equity.
