Experiences and care processes of surrogacy teams
Abstract
Surrogacy journeys are becoming increasingly common in Australia. Surrogacy care is an inherently complex process involving interrelated ethical, legal, clinical, and psychosocial considerations that require coordinated, multidisciplinary care. Surrogacy teams must navigate fertility treatment, pregnancy care, birth planning, and postnatal arrangements, often within health systems that may lack familiarity with surrogacy arrangements and legal requirements. Health systems differ in service availability, specialist access, continuity of care, and clinician expertise in surrogacy care, and these differences may impact intended parents and surrogates. More information is needed to understand how health system interactions can affect intended parents and surrogates across varied care settings.
