Abstract

DESI-12 feasibility-stage instrument piloted with the final dyad of the FRIEND Study (de Blauwe & Fidalgo, 2026, University of East London). DESI = Dyadic Emotional Safety and Inclusion. Twelve partner-rated items on a 5-point Likert scale, structured across three conceptual clusters: Emotional Safety, Relational Engagement, and Masking Awareness. This component archives DESI-12 as a developmental, proof-of-concept instrument, not a validated endpoint. It documents the measure's lineage from the observer-coded Net Safety Index (NSI), the item structure, scoring algorithm, feasibility pilot, and the construct-overlap and ceiling-effect limitations that motivated the transition to DESI-14 v5.1 and later DESI-18. See the DESI-18 instrument record on Zenodo (concept DOI 10.5281/zenodo.20267555) for the current validated version. Maintainer: Vince J. de Blauwe. Licence: CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.
