Abstract

Core Claim The unconscious is not free from language, but language in the unconscious is: - Non-linear - Hybrid - Emotionally weighted - Context-dependent Language does not disappear in the unconscious. It becomes structurally different. 1. Theoretical Correction Instead of using the strict Freudian structure, we reinterpret based on: - Sigmund Freud - Carl Jung - Lev Vygotsky We propose: Language is layered across mind states --- not absent in any. 2. New Structural Model Layer 1 --- Deep Symbolic-Linguistic Layer (Unconscious) Characteristics: - Dreams contain words - Words switch between languages - Emotion triggers mother tongue dominance - Traumatic memory often encoded in first language Language here is: - Fragmented - Associative - Mixed (code-switching) - Not grammatically strict Unconscious = linguistic but structurally unstable. Layer 2 --- Associative Narrative Layer (Preconscious) This layer: - Organizes thoughts into internal speech - Often defaults to mother tongue - Stores autobiographical memory - Influenced by early childhood encoding and emotional intensity Aligns with Vygotsky's inner speech theory. Layer 3 --- Executive Linguistic Layer (Conscious) - Logical - Structured - Can intentionally switch languages - Used for reasoning, analysis, morality - Often second language used here for abstraction. 3. Central Hypothesis Instead of "Is unconscious linguistic?" your research question becomes: "How does language distribution differ across unconscious, preconscious, and conscious cognitive states? " 4. Key Research Hypotheses - H1: Emotional intensity increases probability of mother-tongue activation across all layers. - H2: Code-switching frequency is highest in dream states. - H3: Analytical reasoning favors second language in multilingual individuals. - H4: Early-life memories are disproportionately encoded in mother tongue. 5. OSF Study Design Study Type: Mixed-method: Self-report, Linguistic diary, Dream log, Moral dilemma task Phase 1 --- Dream Log Study Participants: Multilingual adults - Duration: 30 days - Record dream language, emotional intensity (1–10), language switches - Variables: Dominant language, emotional valence, code-switch rate Phase 2 --- Emotional Recall Task - Recall childhood and recent professional memories - Measure language used in recall, emotional strength - Prediction: Childhood → mother tongue dominance Phase 3 --- Moral Dilemma Test - Present trolley problem in L1 and L2 - Measure decision type, response time, emotional reaction 6. Theoretical Contribution Language is not confined to conscious reasoning; it dynamically redistributes across cognitive layers deThis modifies classic interpretations of: - Sigmund Freud - Noam Chomsky and extends linguistic relativity beyond conscious thought.
