The Relationship Between Physical Activity and Age of Menarche with the Incidence of Dysmenorrhea in Adolescents: A Scoping Review
Abstract
Dysmenorrhea is one of the most common reproductive health problems experienced by adolescent girls and can have an impact on daily activities, such as decreased concentration at school, absenteeism, and a reduced quality of life. Recurrent menstrual pain is often considered a normal condition, so it receives less attention and appropriate treatment, especially among adolescents. This literature review aims to explore the influence of exercise habits and age on the incidence of dysmenorrhea in adolescents. This study is a scoping review using the PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar databases. Critical appraisal was conducted using instruments from the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). The results of this study are expected to provide information on the effects of exercise habits and age on the incidence of dysmenorrhea in adolescents. Promotive and preventive efforts are needed to improve healthy lifestyles and reproductive health in adolescents.
