Abstract

Whilst there is evidence on how green spaces and outdoor areas can improve a patient or clients overall wellbeing and psychological status, there is limited investigations into how these spaces can improve physical functional outcomes in patients specifically in a rehabilitation setting. Overall this review will investigate if having access to a functional outdoor green space will improve the quality of hospital stay, whilst increasing patient functional outcomes and mental health for people who are receiving physical inpatient rehabilitation. The expected outcomes include an increase in quality of hospital stay, a decrease in length of hospital stay, an increase in functional gains (perceived and measured) and an increase in positive mental health outcomes (reported and perceived).
