Cancer-Specific Alcohol Warning Labels: A Scoping Review
Abstract
This scoping review will probe into the state of the literature encompassing empirical studies that included cancer-specific text or graphics on alcohol warning labels. Utilizing the framework of Wogalter’s effective warning design guidelines, this review will describe what wording and pictorials have been used as stimuli in cancer-specific alcohol warning label experiments. This will include what wording has been used regarding alcohol consumption (drinking, drinking alcohol, alcohol consumption, etc.) and cancer (general cancer, specific cancers, etc.). The descriptive analysis will also examine the use of pictorials in cancer-specific alcohol label studies, including icons, photos of people, and photos of disease. The goal of this scoping review is to provide a comprehensive overview of cancer-specific alcohol warning label research as it stands currently, with a focus on label design features.
