Do Jewish Americans Identify as White? Consequences for Antisemitism Among Dominant and Non-Dominant Groups
Abstract
Whereas many Jewish Americans who would be classified as White on the US Census (e.g., those of Eastern European descent) self-identify as such, many others do not. The purpose of our research is to examine how non-Jewish White Americans and Americans of color react to learning that most Jewish Americans do (versus don't) identify as White. Specifically, we will test consequences for both antisemitism and perceptions that Jewish Americans are effective allies for minority group members.
