If My Baby Cries, I Must Be a Bad Mother": Dysfunctional Beliefs About Motherhood, Depression, and Parental Stress – AToM Questionnaire Adaptation and Pilot Study
Abstract
The project focuses on cognitive risk factors for mental health disorders in women experiencing motherhood for the first time. The main objective is the Polish adaptation and validation of the Attitudes Toward Motherhood (AToM) scale (Sockol, 2014), used to measure dysfunctional beliefs related to Beliefs Related to Others’ Judgments, Beliefs Related to Maternal Responsibility, and Beliefs Related to Maternal Role Idealization. This is a pilot study (funded by the National Science Centre, Poland; Miniatura 9, grant no. 2025/09/X/HS6/01000) designed to verify the factor structure, reliability, and convergent validity of the tool in the Polish context.
