Abstract

This project presents a systematic literature review examining the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques in academic advising within higher education. The purpose of the review is to synthesize and critically analyze recent research (2018–2025) that applies machine learning, recommender systems, and hybrid AI approaches to support academic orientation, risk detection, career advising, and student progression. The review follows the PRISMA 2020 guidelines and applies predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria across major academic databases. The study aims to structure the fragmented body of literature by categorizing contributions according to methodological paradigms, advising functions, and system-level design considerations.
