Parasternal Intercostal Muscle Ultrasound During Weaning from Mechanical Ventilation: Current Evidence and Knowledge Gaps: A Scoping Review
Abstract
This project corresponds to the protocol of a scoping review aimed at mapping and synthesizing the available evidence on the use of parasternal intercostal muscle ultrasound during weaning from mechanical ventilation in critically ill adult patients. The review will explore the physiological rationale, ultrasound techniques, clinical contexts of application (spontaneous breathing trials, weaning, and extubation), evaluated outcomes, and existing knowledge gaps. The protocol will follow the methodological framework of the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) and the recommendations of the PRISMA-ScR guideline.
