Secondary plant metabolites in selected crops and their potential health benefits: A scoping review
Abstract
This scoping review, conducted within the DCrops4OneHealth project, aims to map and synthesise current evidence on health outcomes potentially influenced by secondary plant metabolites in selected crops: maize, winter rye, buckwheat, chickpeas, and white mustard. Specifically, it will explore whether agrobiodiversity and diversification of cropping systems are associated with changes in crop microbiomes and secondary plant metabolite profiles, and how these changes may impact human health. The review will provide a comprehensive overview of the existing literature, identify knowledge gaps, and inform future research on agroecological practices and their implications for human health.
