Abstract

Self-transcendent emotions (STEs) are shown to be important predictors of well-being and prosocial behavior. There are some trait measures of specific STEs, such as gratitude and forgiveness, but there are few measures of state STEs. To our knowledge, there are no state measures of more than three STEs. We aim to create a measure of STEs, which will add to the literature by providing a measurement tool which can assess changes in state STEs due to experimental manipulations or interventions. We aim to test convergent and divergent validity in a series of three studies. In Study 3, we aim to utilize our measure to identify differential effects of types of beauty on particular STEs.
