Psychological and social factors for paranoid ideation in the ethnically diverse general population– A scoping review
Abstract
Objective: The objective of this scoping review is to map and synthesize the existing evidence on psychological and social risk, protective and maintaining factors associated with paranoid ideation in the ethnically diverse general population. Introduction: Paranoid ideation occurs on a continuum and is influenced by multiple psychological and social factors as are psychotic experiences and related concepts. However, existing evidence remains fragmented, particularly regarding paranoid ideation strictly speaking, minority populations, and young people. In addition, psychological and social factors for paranoid ideation in the general population, including ethnic minority groups and people with migration experience, children, and adolescents have not yet been systematically reviewed. Inclusion criteria: This scoping review will include studies examining psychological and/or social vulnerability, protective, or maintaining factors related to paranoid ideation in the general population, including ethnic minority groups, people with migration experience, and all age groups (adults, adolescents, and children). Methods: A scoping review will be conducted following JBI and PRISMA-ScR methodology. The search will be conducted in four databases: PubMed, PsychINFO, Scopus, and Web of Science. Two reviewers will independently screen titles, abstracts, and full texts. Rayyan will be used to assist in the screening and selection process. Data will be presented through tables and texts.
