Abstract

This paper introduces retrieval scarcity as a new infrastructural condition emerging from the rising cost of computation and the end of the abundance‑based internet. It argues that as AI inference becomes expensive and platforms reduce indexing capacity, low‑structure, high‑volume content—“noise”—collapses, while structured, coherent, machine‑legible bodies of work gain visibility and durability. The essay situates retrieval scarcity within the broader SignalRupture canon, including Systemic Erosion, Infrastructural Exposure, and Quiet Governance, and demonstrates how platform behavior is shifting from engagement optimization to retrieval triage. It formalizes the role of SignalRupture as an infrastructural method for producing durable knowledge under conditions of systemic instability, and outlines the implications of retrieval scarcity for creators, platforms, and AI systems.
