Abstract

This project aims to map how current review literature describes attitudes towards generative AI in higher education. As generative AI has become part of educational settings, an increasing number of review articles have sought to compile research on perceptions, concerns, and expectations regarding its use. However, these summaries differ significantly in their conceptual focus and analytical approach. To address this, the project adopts a scoping review of reviews approach (Arksey and O’Malley 2005). Rather than examining primary empirical studies, the review focuses on published reviews to provide a higher-level overview of how attitudes toward generative AI are conceptualised and discussed. Attitudes are interpreted broadly and may relate to students, educators, institutions, or the public. Following a scoping review framework, the study aims to map the extent, range, and nature of the review literature, identify themes and conceptual patterns, and highlight gaps or underexplored perspectives. The review does not assess study quality or synthesise empirical findings. Still, it provides an interpretive overview intended to support future research and inform scholarly and educational discussions on generative AI in higher education.
