Abstract

The aim of this scoping review is to systematically examine the existing literature on wearable technologies tested in humans that address thermal and physiological stress during heat exposure, with particular relevance to heatwave conditions. The review will focus on the type and quality of data these technologies provide, the methods used to capture and interpret thermal or physiological stress, and the outcomes reported in human studies. By mapping how different wearable systems measure, estimate, or respond to heat-related stress, this review seeks to assess their potential applicability in community settings, including early warning, monitoring, and risk management. Furthermore, the review will identify current knowledge gaps, technological, methodological limitations, and under-explored populations or use contexts. This will inform future research and guide the development and implementation of wearable technologies for community-based heatwave preparedness and response.
