Abstract

Postoperative recovery at home presents significant challenges for patient safety, particularly regarding the early identification and prevention of complications after hospital discharge. Nursing teams play a central role in postoperative follow-up, patient education, and monitoring during this period. Recent advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) have enabled the integration of innovative digital solutions into nursing care, supporting continuous assessment, timely intervention, and patient self-management in the home setting. This scoping review aims to identify and synthesize the existing evidence on nursing interventions that use Artificial Intelligence resources for the prevention and monitoring of postoperative complications in patients recovering at home. The review will focus on AI-enabled technologies such as predictive algorithms, machine learning models, clinical decision support systems, wearable devices, and AI-based telemonitoring platforms implemented by nursing teams or integrated into nursing care pathways. By mapping the characteristics, applications, and outcomes of these technologies, this review seeks to explore their potential to reduce postoperative complications, prevent readmissions, and enhance patient safety and self-care.
