Exploring the use of generative AI in mental health support among BIPOC and LGBTQ+ youth
Abstract
This is an exploratory study focusing on the usage of generative AI for mental health support in self-identifying BIPOC and/or LGBTQ+ young adults. The primary aim of this study is to understand how and why young adults from these backgrounds are perceiving, accessing, experiencing, and evaluating mental health support from generative AI, understanding the strengths and weaknesses of this phenomenon, and understanding how to best support young adults seeking this kind of support. These findings will provide actionable insights for youth mental health and wellness initiatives and contribute to evidence-based strategies to improve access, equity, and student well-being.
