Lumbopelvic Muscle Imbalance and Hamstring Dysfunction in Adults: A Scoping Review of Biomechanical Associations and Rehabilitation Implications
Abstract
This scoping review aims to systematically map and synthesize existing evidence on the association between lumbopelvic muscle imbalance, commonly described in Lower Crossed Syndrome and hamstring dysfunction or injury in adults. The review focuses on biomechanical and neuromuscular mechanisms, the impact of altered pelvic alignment on hamstring function, and rehabilitation strategies addressing both proximal and distal contributors to dysfunction. By charting the evidence across randomized and observational studies, the review seeks to identify gaps in knowledge and inform clinical practice regarding integrated rehabilitation approaches for hamstring-related impairments. Expected outcomes include a comprehensive overview of the relationship between lumbopelvic imbalance and hamstring dysfunction, mechanistic insights, and evidence-based guidance for rehabilitation interventions.
