Associations between Cue-P3 Amplitude and Impulsivity for Women in Substance Use Recovery
Abstract
This study examines electro-cortical response magnitude in relation to impulsivity and graduation outcome among women enrolled in Women in Recovery (WiR), a criminal diversion substance use treatment program. A monetary incentive delay (MID) task was conducted during electroencephalography (EEG) at baseline (within the first few months of beginning the WiR program); the Urgency, Premeditation (lack of), Perseverance (lack of), Sensation Seeking, and Positive Urgency (UPPS-P) Impulsive Behavior Scale was completed at baseline and approximately one-year later. Anticipatory cue-elicited P3 amplitude from the MID task will be compared between women who successfully graduated and those who did not complete the criminal diversion program. Relationships between baseline Cue-P3 magnitude and concurrent levels of, and change over one year in, UPPS-P subdomains of interest (positive urgency, negative urgency, and lack of premeditation) will also be examined.
