Abstract

This is the registration of the scoping review protocol, titled: 'The effectiveness of microprocessor stance and swing phase controlled knee-ankle-foot orthoses in people with knee instability, a scoping review protocol'. This scoping review will be conducted in accordance with the JBI methodology guidance for scoping reviews. The objective of this scoping review is to systematically map and summarize the available evidence on the effectiveness of SSC-KAFOs in people with knee instability caused by lower limb muscle weakness. Additionally, this review aims to identify and discuss gaps in the current evidence base regarding SSC-KAFOs, and to also address priorities for future research and clinical care within this area. A preliminary literature search conducted on January 22, 2026 in PubMed, JBI Evidence Synthesis and Open Science Framework registries revealed that no review protocols on SSC-KAFO. Additional searches in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews and the PROSPERO database also revealed no systematic, scoping or narrative reviews on this topic.
