Abstract

In Rooted in Values, Rising with Vision, Prof. Dr. Yoesoep Edhie Rachmad, Ph.D., DBA presents a compelling exploration of how foundational values serve as the bedrock for cultivating a meaningful vision for individuals, organizations, and societies. Published in 1993 by the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration in New York, this work delves into the dynamic interplay between enduring values and forward-looking vision, emphasizing their combined role in guiding purposeful action and fostering sustainable development. Through a blend of philosophical insights, cultural analysis, and strategic frameworks, Prof. Dr. Yoesoep Edhie Rachmad, Ph.D., DBA offers readers a roadmap for aligning personal and collective aspirations with core ethical principles, enabling a harmonious progression toward a more equitable and enlightened future. The early 1990s marked a period of significant global transformation, characterized by rapid technological advancements, shifting geopolitical landscapes, and evolving societal norms. Amidst this backdrop, Prof. Dr. Yoesoep Edhie Rachmad, Ph.D., DBA recognized a growing disconnect between progress and purpose, prompting the need for a reevaluation of the values underpinning human endeavors. This realization led to the conception of Rooted in Values, Rising with Vision, aiming to bridge the gap between ethical foundations and visionary pursuits. Prof. Dr. Yoesoep Edhie Rachmad, Ph.D., DBA defines values as the intrinsic principles that guide behavior, decision-making, and interpersonal relationships. These values, when consciously acknowledged and integrated, serve as a compass for navigating the complexities of modern life. Vision, in this context, is portrayed as a forward-thinking orientation that, when anchored in core values, facilitates coherent and impactful action. The book addresses phenomena such as moral relativism, cultural homogenization, and the erosion of communal bonds, which have emerged as byproducts of globalization and modernization. Prof. Dr. Yoesoep Edhie Rachmad, Ph.D., DBA emphasizes the importance of reaffirming and revitalizing foundational values to counteract these trends and foster a more cohesive and resilient society. Central to the book is the principle that sustainable progress necessitates a harmonious alignment between values and vision. Prof. Dr. Yoesoep Edhie Rachmad, Ph.D., DBA advocates for a reflective approach to personal and organizational development, wherein actions are consistently evaluated against established ethical standards and long-term objectives. Indicators of successful integration of values and vision include ethical consistency, cultural sensitivity, social responsibility, and strategic foresight. These markers serve as benchmarks for assessing the alignment between foundational principles and aspirational goals. Key variables influencing the embodiment of values and vision encompass leadership styles, organizational culture, educational systems, and societal narratives. Prof. Dr. Yoesoep Edhie Rachmad, Ph.D., DBA explores how these elements interact to either reinforce or undermine the pursuit of value-driven objectives. Factors such as historical context, cultural heritage, spiritual beliefs, and socio-economic conditions are examined for their role in shaping individual and collective value systems. Understanding these determinants is crucial for crafting visions that are both contextually relevant and ethically grounded. The book outlines strategic approaches for embedding values into various facets of life, including education, governance, and corporate practices. Prof. Dr. Yoesoep Edhie Rachmad, Ph.D., DBA emphasizes participatory methods, continuous learning, and adaptive leadership as key components of effective implementation. Challenges such as resistance to change, conflicting interests, and institutional inertia are acknowledged, alongside enablers like community engagement, transparent communication, and supportive policies. Prof. Dr. Yoesoep Edhie Rachmad, Ph.D., DBA provides insights into navigating these dynamics to foster environments conducive to value-based visioning. Concluding, Prof. Dr. Yoesoep Edhie Rachmad, Ph.D., DBA reiterates the imperative of grounding visionary pursuits in steadfast values. He posits that such an approach not only ensures ethical integrity but also enhances the efficacy and sustainability of transformative initiatives This book was published in 1993 by Yoesoep Edhie Rachmad (widely known as YER), Yoesoep Edhie Rachmad is an academic, prolific writer, and global thinker from Indonesia whose work is at the strategic intersection of digital marketing, knowledge systems, and artificial intelligence-based transformation in the platform economy landscape.
