Abstract

This study aims to define and prioritize research lines in vaccination and immunization for the Vaccine Research Group of Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana (GIV-UNITEC) through a modified Delphi consensus process. The project seeks to generate a structured, transparent, and participatory research agenda aligned with national public health priorities and the needs of the Honduran Expanded Program on Immunization (PAI). The study will use a multi-round, asynchronous Delphi methodology involving a purposive sample of 15 to 25 experts from academic, technical, clinical, and programmatic backgrounds, including representatives from the Ministry of Health, international cooperation agencies, healthcare institutions, and universities. Data will be collected through online self-administered questionnaires using KoboToolbox, ensuring anonymity and confidentiality throughout the process. The process will consist of three iterative rounds. In the first round, participants will review and refine a preliminary list of research topics derived from national strategic documents and existing agendas. In the second round, consolidated topics will be rated using Likert-scale criteria, including relevance, feasibility, and potential utility. In the third round, aggregated feedback will be shared to allow participants to reassess their responses and facilitate consensus. Quantitative data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequencies, medians, and interquartile ranges, while qualitative responses will be examined through thematic analysis. This mixed-methods approach will support the systematic identification and prioritization of research areas. Expected outcomes include a consensual set of priority research lines in vaccination and immunization, an institutional framework to guide future research activities within GIV-UNITEC, a technical reference document for academic planning, and a scientific manuscript for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. The study is expected to strengthen collaboration between academia, the health sector, and technical partners, and to contribute to the literature on research agenda setting in low- and middle-income country contexts.
