Positive effect of deliberation on decision outcome
Abstract
The goal of this study is to disentangle the relationship between deliberation length and deliberation quality (i.e., productive engagement). In our previous work, we presented outcome information using Decision from Experience (DfE) format and found that deliberation improved decision accuracy. Notably, the magnitude of this improvement was similar across participants with different levels of numeracy. In the present study, we aim to determine whether this improvement arises primarily from the amount of time participants spend on the task, the amount of information they acquire, or the degree of engagement (i.e., experiencing probabilistic outcomes) they exhibit while working through the problem.
