Love in the Spotlight: Cultivating Gender Norms Through Consumption, Parasocial Ties and Perceived Realism in Reality TV Dating Shows
Abstract
The research project is aiming to examine how reality-dating-shows reinforce traditional gender norms among young adults aged 18-27 in German-speaking DACH countries. This cross-sectional survey study investigates how frequent consumption of these shows predicts greater agreement with traditional gender norms, with parasocial relationships acting as a mediator and perceived reality as a moderator.
