Abstract

This project comprises two closely linked evidence syntheses examining how implementation science (IS) and use of research evidence (URE) are applied in violence against children (VAC) prevention and response research. Despite substantial progress in developing VAC interventions, significant gaps remain in understanding how evidence-based programs, policies, and guidelines are implemented, adapted, scaled, sustained, and used in real-world settings. This review addresses that gap by (1) mapping how IS theories, models, frameworks, strategies, outcomes, and mechanisms are applied in VAC research, and (2) examining how research evidence is mobilised, interpreted, and used in VAC policy and practice, including the strategies and contextual factors influencing uptake. Using a scoping review and critical interpretive synthesis approach, we will systematically search multiple databases (MEDLINE, PsycINFO, ERIC, CINAHL, and Web of Science) for peer-reviewed empirical studies published from 2015 onwards. Eligible studies must report on implementation processes or evidence use in VAC prevention or response. Data extraction and synthesis will examine the depth and quality of framework application, operationalisation of implementation and URE outcomes, strategies used to support uptake, and attention to equity and sustainability. The expected outcomes include (1) a descriptive map of how IS and URE are currently applied in VAC research, (2) identification of conceptual and methodological gaps, and (3) recommendations to strengthen future implementation and evidence mobilisation efforts in VAC prevention, policy, and practice. Findings will inform two manuscripts (IS-focused and URE-focused), with potential for a subsequent integrative conceptual paper bridging both strands.
