Abstract

This project investigates the quality and readability of online information related to dental implants, including general implant therapy, peri implantitis, and zygomatic implants. As patients increasingly turn to the internet to guide decisions about complex dental procedures, it is important to understand how accurate, comprehensive, and accessible this information is. The project aims to map the existing research that has evaluated implant related website content, the tools used to assess information quality and readability, and the factors such as website authorship or search engine retrieval that may influence what patients encounter online. Using a scoping review methodology, the project identifies and synthesises studies that have assessed online implant information using established evaluation frameworks and readability indices. The review describes the range of assessment tools used, the types of websites examined, and the methodological approaches taken across studies. It also explores patterns in authorship, transparency, and search engine behaviour to understand how these elements shape the information landscape. The expected outcome is a comprehensive overview of what is currently known about the quality and readability of dental implant information available on the internet. By mapping existing evidence and highlighting gaps, the project aims to support clinicians, researchers, and policymakers in improving the clarity, reliability, and accessibility of online patient resources.
