Interpersonal Consequences of Misplaced Certainty (Reddit Data Analysis)

This research examines how misplaced certainty influences interpersonal communication in online discussions. The study will analyze publicly available discussions from the online platform Reddit, specifically posts and comments from the subreddits r/relationship_advice, r/parenting, and r/work. The project will examine how original poster(OP)s’ misplaced certainty relates to the nature of comments they receive (i.e., opposition and aggression by other users) and to their responses to those comments (i.e., aggression, intellectual arrogance, persuasive control, determined ignorance). The study uses computational text analysis with large language models to analyze the content of posts and comments.
