Research Poster: A landscape design approach to optimise carbon storage potential of urban wetlands in Christchurch, New Zealand
Abstract
This research poster (2019) explains the intent underpinning the research design and examines the biogeochemical carbon processes operating within wetland landscape structures. It presents the carbon cycle in relation to plant species composition, plant diversity, and their influence on carbon sequestration. Emphasis is placed on the ecological significance of plant diversity in landscape design and its role in enhancing the efficiency of carbon sequestration processes, enabling wetlands to function as effective carbon reserves within shorter timeframes.
