Abstract

Plastic bottle waste is a major environmental issue, with billions of bottles produced annually and a large portion ending up in landfills and oceans due to improper disposal. This study explores the feasibility of a smart plastic bottle recycling system integrating an infrared sensor and a mobile application to encourage recycling participation. The research focuses on cost analysis, the contribution of plastic bottles to pollution, and the global production rate of plastic bottles. Since this is a research proposal, no prototype testing is conducted, but the findings suggest that the system is both feasible and affordable. The proposed innovation offers a potential solution to improve recycling rates by providing incentives and real-time tracking of recycling efforts. If implemented, this system could help reduce plastic waste, promote responsible waste disposal, and encourage environmental awareness. Future research and prototype development are recommended to further assess its practicality and effectiveness in real-world applications.
