Abstract

This study will test the role of perspective-giving following an interpersonal transgression within an ongoing relationship. More specifically, we are interested in the motivations and barriers that individuals may have for perspective-giving, and whether perspective-giving leads to positive outcomes, both intrapersonal and interpersonal. This study will ask participants to recall a recent transgression they have been involved in and answer a series of questions related to their decision to give their perspective, and what outcomes it had for them and their relationship. We are also interested in further developing our scale focusing on motivations and barriers for perspective-giving, as well as looking at how victims and wrongdoers may differ in their decision-making.
