Abstract

Systematic Literature Reviews are essential for evidence-based practice but are becoming increasingly resource-intensive due to the rapid growth of published scientific literature. While artifical intelligence, specifically large language models, offer promising opportunities for automation of systematic literature reviews, a comprehensive evaluation of their efficiency and reliability across the entire review worklfow is still lacking. The aim of this scoping review is to investigate how artificial intelligence has been applied to automate processes within systematic literature reviews. Specifically, this study provides a broader overview of artifical intelligence - based automation of systematic reviews, analyzing efficiency gains, performance metrics, key beneftis, and practical limitations across the full review workflow.
