PCIRR-Stage1-Snapshot_When Spatio-Temporal Regularities Guide Vision: Positional Momentum in Visual Search
Abstract
This project replicates and extends Fuggetta et al. (2007) by testing whether predictable inter-trial shifts in target position create cumulative “attentional momentum” that facilitates visual search and biases spatial perception. Across four experiments, participants will perform visual search tasks with one or multiple distractors while target locations change following congruent or incongruent spatial trajectories across trials. The study examines whether regular target shifts speed responses, improve accuracy, accumulate over successive trials, and systematically bias perceived target location in the direction of good continuation. Together, the results will clarify whether attentional momentum operates under high search load and whether it influences not only performance but also spatial perception, potentially in opposition to classic serial dependence effects.
