CueThinkEF+ Phase 5 2024-25 Independent Evaluation: Final Report
Abstract
This report summarizes activities and findings from an evaluation of CueThinkEF+, a problem-solving platform and associated pedagogical approach designed for students in Grades 6–8. CueThinkEF+, owned by Imagine Learning, is an online supplemental math program that scaffolds problem solving by breaking the process into a series of steps: exploring the problem, planning the problem-solving approach, implementing that approach, and then explaining their reasoning. The CueThinkEF+ team refined the platform to enhance students’ executive function (EF) skills and conducted a pilot study of the revised platform and approach with funding from EF+Math, a program of the Advanced Education Research and Development Fund (AERDF). EF+Math commissioned American Institutes for Research® (AIR®) to conduct two independent evaluations of the approach after the initial pilot study: a mid-scale evaluation in spring of 2024 and a large-scale evaluation in the 2024–2025 school year. Each evaluation included analyses of program implementation, teacher and student perspectives of the program, and impact on student outcomes as compared to business-as-usual (BAU) instruction. The findings from the first evaluation are available in another report (Smith et al., 2025). This report focuses on the second evaluation. DOWNLOAD FULL REPORT HERE: https://osf.io/erzbk
