Abstract

This research project explores Belgian adults' attitudes towards transgender men and women. The aim is to investigate the links between political ideology (measured by political orientation, right-wing authoritarianism, and left-wing authoritarianism), contact with transgender men and women, and attitudes towards transgender men and women. A moderation analysis will be conducted to examine whether contact mitigates the effect of political ideologies on attitudes. The expected results are: 1) more conservative individuals (right-wing political orientation, right-wing authoritarianism) will have unfavourable attitudes towards transgender people, 2) individuals who have more frequent and positive contact with transgender people will have more favourable attitudes towards transgender people, and 3) frequent and positive contact moderates the link between political ideology and attitudes.
