Inclusion of Workers with Disabilities in the Transportation Sector: A Scoping Review
Abstract
This review is part of a larger project entitled IMPROVING ACCESSIBILITY IN THE CIVIL AVIATION SECTOR, which is being developed by the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), in collaboration with the University of São Paulo, together with the National Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SAC) through PROEX/UFSCar PROCESS 23112.040020/2023-56 TED No. 002/2023. The object of the project consists of two axes: a) Adherence and Effectiveness of Airport and Air Operators in accessibility practices in Civil Aviation; and, b) Participation of Workers with Disabilities in Civil Aviation. The first axis will address issues related to the dissemination of accessibility practices in the sector; updates to the Accessibility Manual and improvement of the instruments/methodologies already developed for granting the Accessibility Seal; and monitoring the process of assessing the relevance and effectiveness of accessibility practices for people with disabilities through the online platform and in face-to-face processes at Brazilian airports. In the second axis, a new research and development agenda will be established to understand how the inclusion of people with disabilities in the civil aviation job market (airline operators, airport workers, auxiliary service companies and concessionaires) takes place, as well as establishing a competency and training matrix that can stimulate the inclusion of people with disabilities in jobs in the sector. The review is part of the second axis, and the primary idea would be to explore the inclusion of workers in the air transport sector. However, given the unsuccessful search results, we decided to expand the scope of analysis to include workers with disabilities in transport sectors.
