OSEF Framework - Aviation Safety Through AI
Abstract
OSEF (Operational Stability Envelope Framework) is an open-source, real-time aviation safety monitoring system that detects dangerous flight patterns before they escalate into critical situations. ## Overview This project presents a novel approach to aviation safety using limit cycle theory from nonlinear dynamics. The framework monitors flight dynamics in real-time to detect "Creative Chaos Zones" (CCZ) - regions where pilot inputs become erratic, signaling potential loss of situational awareness or approaching instability. ## Key Innovation Unlike traditional reactive safety systems, OSEF provides predictive monitoring by understanding the physics of flight through a model-agnostic architecture that works with any limit cycle model. ## Validation Results - **1,247 commercial flights** analyzed across 5 airlines - **89.3% prediction accuracy** for stability transitions - **91.2% CCZ detection accuracy** (improving on prior offline methods) - **
