Abstract

Objective: This scoping review aims to understand the extent and type of evidence regarding prosocial behaviours toward immigrant populations across contexts. Introduction: International migration is steadily increasing, and immigrant populations often face unequal treatment in host societies, including barriers to employment, housing, and healthcare. Yet very little is known about how individuals exhibit prosocial behaviours toward immigrants. Previous reviews have lacked methodological rigour or have focused on intergroup relations in general. A scoping review is therefore needed to systematically map the breadth and diversity of research on prosocial behaviours specifically toward immigrant populations. Inclusion criteria: This scoping review will consider quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method studies. Studies will examine the adoption or intention to adopt prosocial behaviours toward adult immigrants in any sociocultural or geographic context by healthy adults. Methods: This review will follow the JBI methodology for scoping reviews. The databases PsycINFO (Ovid), Social Sciences Full Text (EBSCO), Sociological Abstracts (ProQuest), and Web of Science (Clarivate) will be searched. Supplementary searches in Google Scholar will be conducted to include sources of grey literature. No date or language limits will be applied. Citations will be imported into Covidence for screening and data extraction. Selection based on title and abstract and selection based on full text will be conducted by two independent reviewers, following pilot tests. A third reviewer will resolve disagreements. Data extraction will be performed by one reviewer and verified by a second one. Evidence will be analyzed descriptively and presented through tables, maps, diagrams, and narrative summaries.
