Barriers and Facilitators to the Implementation of and Adherence to Guidelines on Postpartum Pelvic Floor Dysfunction in General Practice: Protocol for a scoping review
Abstract
This scoping review aims to identify barriers and facilitators influencing the implementation of and adherence to guidelines for postpartum pelvic floor dysfunction in general practice. Pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) is often induced by childbirth, and includes symptoms of urinary incontinence (UI), pelvic organ prolapse (POP), or fecal incontinence (FI). Although widely acknowledged, guidelines on postpartum PFD in general practice are not consistently implemented, and inadequate treatment and management of symptoms remains a persistent challenge. Studies written in English or Danish that focused on the implementation of and adherence to guidelines for postpartum pelvic floor dysfunction in general practice are eligible for inclusion. In accordance with the JBI methodology for scoping reviews, this proposed scoping review will have a systematic search of three databases, PubMed (Medline), Embase, and CINAHL (Ebsco). All citations found through the search will be screened by two independent reviewers: first on title and abstract, followed by a full text screening of all citations selected in the title and abstract screening. Data will be extracted from all included studies, and results will be described and presented in relevant figures.
