Investigating Effects of an Adaptive versus a Static Workplace Exercise Intervention among Workers with Physically Demanding Jobs
Abstract
Workers with physically demanding jobs (primarily blue-collar workers) will be randomised to either a 12-week novel adaptive exercise protocol that adjusts the daily exercise recommendations based on daily workload and readiness (Adaptive), or a static exercise protocol (Static) following general physical activity guidelines. For both intervention groups, three training sessions will be scheduled per week, primarily focusing on aerobic exercise, with a few basic strength exercises also included. The intervention aims to study whether adjusting the exercise recommendation based on daily workload and readiness may be superior than “just adding” exercise as recommended by the general physical activity guideline. We want to investigate whether the Adaptive and Static training interventions lead to different training content and structures, as well as outcomes in terms of readiness score, physical and mental health, physical performance, as well as work-related performance.
