Abstract

This systematic review aims to identify, synthesize, and critically evaluate published studies reporting gastrointestinal parasites in Sus scrofa domesticus in Europe between 2010 and 2025. The review will summarize the prevalence, diversity, and geographic distribution of gastrointestinal parasitic species, as well as methodological characteristics of the included studies. Eligible studies are identified through structured searches of relevant bibliographic databases and screened according to predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data extraction focuses on parasite species, host characteristics, diagnostic methods, study location, and study design. The expected outcome of this review is a comprehensive overview of the current evidence on gastrointestinal parasites affecting domestic pigs in Europe, identification of knowledge gaps, and recommendations for future research and surveillance efforts. This registration is retrospective, as literature searching and screening had already commenced at the time of registration.
