Influence of access to the internet, social media and digital platforms on adolescents in Latin America who experience cyberbullying or school bullying and their coping strategies: a scoping review
Abstract
Introduction: Access to the internet and various digital platforms has become an essential tool for most people, facilitating the search for information for work-related, academic and recreational purposes. However, in the case of children and especially adolescents, the use of these virtual platforms without adequate supervision or control may promote risk situations such as virtual harassment (cyberbullying) and school bullying. In recent years, the incidence of these problems has increased significantly, generating negative repercussions across different areas of young people’s development and well-being. Methodology: A scoping review will be conducted with the aim of identifying and analysing all available information on the uncontrolled use of virtual platforms and its impact on teens. This review will provide the necessary tools to assess how such use influences young people who are victims of cyberbullying and school bullying in Latin America, as well as to identify strategies for their appropriate management. Expected Results: This review is expected to identify and describe the existing scientific evidence on the influence of access to the internet, social media and digital platforms on adolescents in Latin America who experience cyberbullying or school bullying. The results will allow the recognition of the main consequences associated with these experiences, such as academic performance and social relationships. Additionally, possible prevention and intervention strategies reported in the literature will be identified and evaluated, aimed at promoting the safe use of digital technologies and reducing cyberbullying and school bullying.
