Abstract

Research on adaptive performance spans multiple domains, including psychology, organizational theory, human factors, and systems engineering. While these literatures propose diverse mechanisms and constructs, they rarely specify the architectural control requirements that must be jointly satisfied for adaptive performance to persist under uncertainty. This preprint discloses a minimal set of seven architectural functional requirements that characterize adaptive performance systems independently of domain, actor, or implementation. The specification is architectural rather than mechanistic and does not constitute a process model, control algorithm, or theory of behavior.
