Incidence of recurrent stroke following left atrial appendage closure in patients with ischemic stroke under oral anticoagulation: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Abstract
This project is a systematic review and meta-analysis designed to synthesize the available evidence on clinical outcomes following left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) in patients who have experienced a breakthrough ischemic stroke. Breakthrough stroke, defined as ischemic stroke occurring despite ongoing oral anticoagulation, represents a high-risk clinical scenario with limited evidence to guide secondary prevention strategies. LAAC has emerged as a potential therapeutic option in this population; however, reported outcomes remain heterogeneous and have not been comprehensively quantified. The primary purpose of this review is to estimate the pooled incidence of recurrent ischemic stroke following LAAC in patients with prior breakthrough ischemic stroke.
