Neuroviral Integrative PNDS-GERD-Anxiety Model
Abstract
This project presents a novel integrative neuroviral model proposing that persistent herpesviruses (EBV, CMV, HSV-1, HHV-6) may induce chronic neuroinflammation of cranial nerves IX, X, and V, leading to a unified multisystem clinical phenotype consisting of: postnasal drip syndrome (PNDS), gastroesophageal and laryngopharyngeal reflux (GERD/LPR), autonomic dysfunction with reduced vagal tone, esophageal and pharyngolaryngeal hypersensitivity, anxiety and somatic hypervigilance. The model is based on twenty-three years of clinical ENT experience, with a marked increase in postviral and Epstein–Barr–related cases after the COVID-19 pandemic. The project includes the full preprint manuscript, metadata, and cover letter prepared for medRxiv/OSF DOI assignment. This repository formally documents the conceptual foundations, proposed mechanisms, and research agenda (cross-sectional and RCT designs) for the neuroviral PNDS–GERD–Anxiety phenotype.
