Abstract

Graeber, D., Meister, L., & Poutvaara, P. (2024). Restrictions to civil liberties in a pandemic and satisfaction with democracy. European Journal of Political Economy. The package includes all Stata scripts required to reproduce the tables and figures in the paper. The analysis uses a difference-in-differences design to estimate the effect of stay-at-home orders during the COVID-19 pandemic on satisfaction with democracy in Germany, drawing on the Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP v38), the ZPID Lockdown Measures Dataset, RKI infection data, and the German Internet Panel (GIP). Scripts are organised into a build/ tier (data preparation) and an analysis/ tier (one script per table or figure). The underlying microdata are not included and must be obtained separately: SOEP data require a data use agreement with DIW Berlin; GIP data are available via GESIS. See README.md for setup instructions and a full script-to-output mapping, and Codebook.md for variable descriptions.
